Summer at The Drill

Three live events for Lincoln Alumni (and 25% off the comedy night).

Three brilliant live shows are coming up at The Drill in early June – and as Lincoln College alumni, you’ve got an exclusive 25% discount on one of them. If you’ve not been to The Drill recently (or at all), it’s worth a fresh look. Tucked just off the High Street, it’s become one of the most distinctive small venues in the city – intimate enough that you can actually see the band, with a sound system that punches well above its weight, and the kind of programme that quietly draws in some of the best touring acts of their size in the country.

Here’s what’s coming up.

Sanctum Sanctorium – Friday 5 June, 7pm

A genuine spectacle. Sanctum Sanctorium brings prog-rock theatre with a real sense of occasion – the kind of show that rewards being in a small room rather than a stadium. If you’ve a friend who loves bands like Hawkwind, Marillion or anything with a story to tell, this is one to drag them to.

UK Foo Fighters – Saturday 6 June, 7pm

Arguably the country’s best Foo Fighters tribute – not a covers band going through the motions, but a properly serious live act that captures the energy of the real thing without the £150 ticket price. UK Foo Fighters will run a set that takes in the hits and the deep cuts, and The Drill’s compact room makes it feel like the band are playing for you specifically.

Red Herring Comedy Club – Saturday 13 June, 7.30pm (25% off with code ALUMNI25)

The Drill’s monthly Red Herring Comedy Club has built up a loyal following – three or four touring comedians, a strong compère, and an audience that’s actually there for the comedy rather than just out for a drink. As a Lincoln College alumnus, you can get 25% off your tickets by using the code ALUMNI25 at checkout. A great night out, and a chance to support a venue that takes a bit of a punt on talent rather than playing it safe.

Why It’s Worth a Few Hours of Your Time

It’s easy to default to whatever’s on Netflix, and we get it. But a live gig in a small venue gives you something you can’t get any other way – the rough edges, the in-between chat, the sense that anything could happen in the next minute. The Drill is a venue that genuinely values its audience and its acts, and supporting it (especially with the alumni discount on the comedy) means it can keep booking the kind of nights that make a city feel alive.
